Frequently Asked Questions

How can I start working with you?

In Person at Private Practice — Self-Pay

Appointments are $175 for an initial nutrition assessment (60 minutes) and $75-$105 for follow-up appointments (30-45 minutes). Superbills are available for patients with out-of-network insurance benefits who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurance plan. Please use the Contact page to call, send an email, or send a message to get started.

Virtual Appointments through Nourish — Insurance-Based

I also see patients virtually through Nourish. If Nourish is in-network with your insurance plan, you may be able to use your insurance benefits for appointments with me. Nourish handles insurance verification and billing, and your cost will depend on your individual insurance plan and benefits. Which Option is Right for Me?

If you're unsure which option is the best fit based on your insurance, budget, or preference for in-person versus virtual care, I'm happy to talk through the options with you and help you decide which approach best meets your needs. Please use the Contact page to call, send an email, or send a message to get started.

Please Note

Ahimsa Integrative Nutrition and Nourish are separate services. Atlanta provides nutrition counseling through both, but scheduling, insurance coverage, and billing are handled separately.

Nourish currently accepts Medicare for qualifying conditions, but does not accept Medicaid/OHP. If you have Medicaid/OHP or would like to schedule directly through Ahimsa Integrative Nutrition, please use the Contact page to call, send an email, or send a message to get started.

Do you accept referrals?

Yes! I welcome referrals from primary care providers, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. For self-pay patients, I also accept self-referrals so you do not need a referral from another provider to schedule an appointment.

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

A registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert who meets specific education, supervised practice, and examination requirements. Dietitians use evidence-based nutrition care to help individuals manage health conditions, improve their relationship with food, and work toward their health goals.

The term nutritionist can have different meanings depending on the state, as requirements for using this title vary. While some nutritionists have extensive nutrition education and training, the title alone does not guarantee the same qualifications or credentials as a registered dietitian.

With so much nutrition information available online and on social media, it can be difficult to know what to trust or how to apply it to your own life. Working with a registered dietitian helps you cut through the noise, understand what the research actually says, and focus on practical recommendations tailored to your individual needs—without having to sort through conflicting advice on your own.

At Ahimsa Integrative Nutrition, Atlanta Macklin, RDN, LD, CDCES, combines current nutrition research with personalized, practical, and compassionate support to help you feel more confident in your food choices and find an approach to eating that fits your health needs, preferences, and lifestyle.

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently pursuing credentialing with Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield/Premera, Aetna, Moda Health, and EOCCO. Insurance participation is pending, so please check back for updates as these contracts become active. Superbills are available for patients with insurance benefits who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurance plan.

What does Ahimsa mean?

Ahimsa (uh-HIM-suh) is a Sanskrit word meaning non-harm or non-violence. In this practice, it means choosing foods that align with your values, treating your body with respect, and building supportive habits without guilt or extreme restriction.

Do you offer group consultations or workshops?

Group consultations and workshops are available to discuss by request. Share your interests through the Contact page, and Atlanta will reach out to explore options with you.

What should I prepare for my initial consultation?

Atlanta will let you know what to prepare when she contacts you to schedule. Depending on your goals, useful information may include recent lab results, a list of medications and supplements, your medical history, and a food log.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized statement that includes the information your insurance company needs to process a claim, such as the date and type of service, diagnosis and procedure codes, and provider information.

If Ahimsa Integrative Nutrition is not in-network with your insurance plan, you may be able to submit a superbill to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Please Note

Providing a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. Your insurance plan determines whether out-of-network nutrition services are covered and how much you may be reimbursed.

We recommend contacting your insurance company before your appointment to ask about coverage for outpatient medical nutrition therapy (MNT) with an out-of-network Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
